Hi Chris, Was just thinking that as you have an involvement and the West Sussex league strays over into Emsworth, etc, it might be an idea to bill it as Hampshire's event - rather than Sussex's, who may be well positioned to run the event themselves from a choice of venues in the future. Other than that, sounds good !

Hi Clive
Well it would be in Emsworth but West Sussex would take the Comp up not Hants.
Thanks Chris

In that case before submitting your tender to the AEBBA you ought to run it past the SCBBA as the affiliated body.

Why? West Sussex are looking at hosting it? not part of SCBBA schedule? And it is an AEBBA event. Oh well - I will wait for the barrage of messages to tell me why?

Since the National Off-the-spot competition has been recommissioned and is doing a tour of the counties, so far we have had: 2013 Kent (c/o Tun Wells League) 2014 Kent (c/o Medway League) 2015 Surrey (c/o Redhill League) 2016 Surrey (c/o Redhill League)
At some stage in the future Sussex might expect their turn to come round, and effectively you would be taking up one of their slots, unless your tender to the AEBBA were to be submitted under the guise of Hampshire.
Sussex has ten leagues, all affiliated to the SCBBA, and the West Sussex League is just one of these member leagues.
I would have thought therefore that it would be a matter of common courtesy to submit your plans to the SCBBA and hopefully receive their approval.
Apart from the protocol, I am looking at the practicality: If you and Martin ran it for Hampshire, you would be entitled to expect a repeat in 2018, either from Emsworth or Portsmouth. But if you chose Sussex, you might not get a second bite as someone might submit a plan from Roffey or Hurstpierpoint SSC as otherwise they would have to wait in turn behind Hants, Berks, Bucks, Oxon and Northants - potentially a ten year wait !

Hello Clive, I have to say that I am with Chrissie on this one and see no harm being done to Sussex at all if "West Sussex" want to run the competition, it would certainly still be much more local for our players if it were to be held at Emsworth than it would be if it were held in one of the northern counties and I am sure it would receive a lot of support from players around the whole of Sussex. I think that the idea of the National OTS travelling around the counties was a good one as it helps to spread the workload of the people that organise the competitions in all of the counties and, since this competition would be held right on the boundary between West Sussex and Hampshire it may even lead to a return of an Open in Hampshire at some stage in the future....

Hi Dave, I too am looking forward to supporting this event if it were to be staged within the confines of the West Sussex League.
I was merely making the point of the courtesy I would expect associated with submitting the plan.
I for instance would not dream of going straight to AEBBA, bypassing SCBBA, with a plan to stage it in Horsham (not that I am !): I would seek approval first from my League, then from my County.
If by your post you are giving a nod of approval on behalf of SCBBA, then that's probably job done.
