"Table 9 had an extremely thin break and right hand roll. I know that Paul Sainsbury played a few shots up the table before the Under 25 Final was played on this table, but I didn't watch the match as I was scoring a different game." Just for the record I did run a few balls on it but purely on behalf of the Tunbridge Wells league who are considering buying it and wanted to make sure there wasn't anything terribly wrong with it. Had I known the U25 final was to be played on it I may have suggested someone (Dave Alder or Phil Hawkins) have a quick look at it as the break was not easy (although still playable). I don't recall a right hand roll though. Paul, in view of the fact that nobody had played on the table and the competition was over apart from the Finals, I thought perhaps that Dave or Phil may have suggested that you ran some balls up before the Under 25 Final was played, I certainly didn't mean to give an impression that you had done anything incorrect as you certainly hadn't. ;D Dave, not taken that way, just wanted to clarify that I wasn't levelling the table up for the final!

"The Caversham club had a guest player from their own league, i was told."
You are quite correct Ian although Phil's team did not enter the competition so he was able to guest for us. I believe your problem was that all the Northants players had already played in the comp.
Clearly this rule needs modifying for the current climate if we want to keep the competition going. If it gets really picky there is a previous winner who technically played in the competition twice in that year. One of the leagues he plays in sends the league champions as county representatives so he has surely played in the competition in that county. He then entered the knockout competition in another county for a team he also plays league for, won that and then won the finals. I won't name the player or the leagues involved as I firmly believe we should be promoting playing not restricting it but I am sure a lot of people on here would find it very ironic!!!

Although i`ve had one or two ;D, my favourite would have to be chasing Tony Walsh`s 24,000 in the Berkshire singles final a few years ago. I beat him by 100 ;) Not a bad competition that night as the two losing semi-finalists were Paul Sainsbury & Mark Turner :o I remember that well as it was the night Tony got the nickname "oneball" after leaving a white ball in the tray after playing the table out for 23,900. KT spotted it before the start of the second leg and very sportingly let him sink it meaning he was then chasing 24,000, which he then caught! Cracking game.

Whilst not my highest the 22,950 I made chasing John Burrows 22,890 in the AEBBA singles back in the 90's is my favorite. And I didn't even win the Group!
Mind you being the first (and so far only) to make 25k at the Imperial Southborough AND bettering Sir KT's 24k+ on the same table was quite fun ;)

Paul Still got 2 bottles of the St Emilion for next time you come to dinner. Tommo 2009 Hardy's Merlot - nice - good for cooking. Just going to open a barolo, yummi Recently purchased a bottle of Barons de Rothschild Lafite Réserve Spéciale which I MIGHT save for next time you come (or I might drink it with a nice bit of steak at the weekend!!). :D

Wouldn't say no to a nice glass of Rioja, am quite partial to Argentinian Malbec at the moment as well.
In fact, come to think of it if it's red I'll probably drink it! :-*

Sav you have good taste, I have just opened a bottle of 1995 Chateau St-Poly St. Emilion Grand Cru with bread and cheese. Lovely Pete I don't recall sampling that one with you!!! No wonder we don't get an invite for dinner very often :) You can't beat a Margaux in my opinion.

Played in this competition many, many moons ago when it was the Bricks Triples and can honestly say it was the most enjoyable bar billiards I have ever played. And I don't think I've drunk more than I did those days. Used to stay with Glug, what a mistake that was!!! Also, played in the Dutch Open a few times and even managed to win it when I could hardly stand up! Happy days.

I was there! And I do remember it as it was the first time I played for England. I think I played Dave Mahoney but am sure I won whoever it was. Can't remember the match score though.

I always do it unless the red is coming back after a foul in which case I leave my opponent to choose which ball they want.
It is purely courtesy and therefore a personal choice.
I did however have a bad experience many years ago in Jersey when on every occasion I put a ball up, my opponent, (who shall remain nameless and was leading) put it back in the tray before deciding which shot to play and picking up another ball!!!

Spent many a happy time with Derek in the 80's at the Bricks Triples, Dutch Open etc and recall some great times. One of the best was when I mistakenly went for a ruby with him and Glug! Somewhat worse for wear and kept nodding off, everytime I opened my eyes there was much less food left on the table!
Hadn't seen Derek for years and didn't realise he was ill.
My condolences to his family

Dave, The spelling of Neale & Bryan is correct, and it is Don Wolvey. I also notice in your original post you have Dennis (Chapman)& Dave (Ansett) the wrong way round now.

Dizzy top scoring - must be a first! Result from the semi final 1st leg at the Imperial Imp 'B' 1 Con Club 4 Dave 5470 Richard 5980 Doug 5880 Paul 10690 Neale 4910 Pete 11900 Skippy 6710 Katie 270 Ian & Neale 670 Richard & Katie 1880
First game was a cracker, Richard opened with just short of 5k, Dave eventually got them back and got 500 in front and missed. Richard finished off for the win.
Second & third leg Paul & Pete went in with enough.
Fourth leg Skippy started with nearly 3k and played well to finish with nearly 7k.
Last game Richard went in with 1880, Ian got them back on his 2nd visit and made 7.5k only to whip the split straight through the peg. Richard got them back but lost 1200 but it used up the time and Neale got them back as the bar dropped.
Great result for us but very unfortunate for the Imp 'B'.

Thank you all for your kind messages. I know it's hard to believe such a youthful looking person such as myself is 50 but it's true. Having a quiet meal with my brothers and partners tonight. Bit of a small do on Saturday.
Yes I am a Libran, and pretty typical by the sound of it!
Sorry about the invite Keith, you can buy me a pint next time instead ;)

As far as Reading goes I cannot provide any information as I don't get involved with the running of the league.
Tunbridge Wells, however, I did attend the EGM where funds were secured to buy 4 tables, the existing 3 in the league plus 1 other. Obviously subject to the landlords not taking up their option.
