Gawd it doesn't seem a year ago,
how things have changed.
only upside to the pending lockdown is the price of beer, I've seen ales for sale in pubs in town for as little as 95p a pint including Doombar and Hobgoblin.
I have the feeling it could be a messy day

It has been decided to cancel the league indefinitely with a review planned for March next year when if possible a league KO will be held.
The earliest date for the league to be restarted has provisionally set for 12 months time in October next year, I know this sounds a long way off but realistically we all know covid is here for the long term and isn't simply just going to go away and playing our game while socially distancing and adhering to guidelines regarding sanitising just isn't possible.
Fingers crossed and things will change as I know Steve does have plans for a mini summer league

Clive, please dont get my wrong, I admire your attemps to get bar billiards going again but be careful. I have heard of Zoono Z71, towards the end of last month they were forced by trading standards to withdraw their claims that it was effective against covid-19 for upto 30 days so don't rely on the product.
It can only come down to personal hygiene, when you are close together playing bar billiards I don't believe there is any proof that wearing a disposable paper mask will help, I guess it can't do much harm though. It will all come down to your covid-19 risk assessment, sanitizing your hands after you finish your break is a must, putting a ball up for your opponent after your break finishes makes no difference, chances you have touched every ball anyway, so its just dont touch your face with your hands, infact keep the contact between your hands and anything else to a minimum until you have washed them, use hand sanitizer between breaks, dont eat crips etc during your game, I know in 3 pin that can be tempting as breaks can go on for some time.
I wish you well tommo but be careful, it could all be pointless though as we are heading for another lockdown and pubs will get the blame

I believe taking track and trace details is now a legal requirement.
We've tried playing and having 2 sets of balls so one set is always clean and ready for the next game, problems are players always put their hand in roughly the same place on the table when playing a shot, and cleaning the ball runs inside the table between games is a non starter, so clean balls are contaminated straight away. All down to individuals, whether you trust your opponent and if you wanna take the risks

To true sav and something I don't think many have considered, if four people travel in one car they should then stay together in their "bubble" they can't then split up and each join other bubbles.

Tommo, there were plans in place to play the 4x4 this year but the latest restrictions of only groups of six people has put paid to it for now. The 4x4 is now established so it would be both pointless and unfair to drop the number of players per team down from 4 to 3. Plus even then it wouldn't work, the first games great, all groups of 6 players but in the next round of games those groups of 6 would split up and have to intermingle with others which is totally against the guidelines, rules and law.
To my knowledge there are no plans to restart the Sudbury league in the near future.
I think the resumption of anything more than the odd friendly games is months away, to be honest I think the plans we have already made for next year's 4 pin in March is very optimistic.
Gut feeling I have is we're heading for another lockdown.

I just don't know what you mean Sav I got Del out of retirement when we played at the snooker club last year on their upside down bath tub, he managed to wipe out a 50 peg as well as the black with his cue when it slipped out of his hand, needless to say he lost his score and the game. We sometimes have sausage rolls up here in Suffolk |

I've seen games lost in the last season we played because a player has knocked the black peg over with their cue while getting a ball out to play, it's no different from your cue knocking into balls on the table while getting a ball out of the tray to play

In sudbury the rules state
The player causes the peg covering the 200 hole to be knocked over
So you bend down to pick a ball up to play and your cue knocks over the black peg, you lose you entire score.

People seem to be forgetting that any bussiness that is found to be operating in a way that could increase the risk of transmission can be shut down. This means basically if your local pub is allowing gatherings of more than two households to take place they risk being prosecuted and losing their business. I'm pretty dam sure there are not many, if any bar billiards teams made up purely of people from one household so even allowing a friendly knock about on the table between just one team could be enough to get the landlord into not water.
Covid hasnt gone away, infact its coming right back at us now and any thoughts of playing bar billiards in any form other than a friendly game between a couple of mates should be put on hold.

Just to let you know that The Suffolk BBA have decided not to reschedule for this year but a date has been set for next year, this is of course dependent on Covid-19 allowing. No decision has yet been made on the 4x4 team tournament.
The Plan is to hold the World Four Pin on Sunday 21st March 2021 at the Masonic Hall in Sudbury. There will be a doubles KO on Saturday 20th March starting around 5pm.
We would of liked to go for the following weekend but unfortunately that date was already booked at the venue.
On the Suffolk/Sudbury league front, their are no real plans as yet as to when the league will restart although the league doesn't normally start until the end of September, so hopefully by then things will all be a little clearer.
Of the six league venues in and around town there is an equal split of venues allowing bar billiards and those who are not yet playing.
The snooker club, the institute club and the brook are all allowing their tables to be played on while the tables at the bay horse and brewery tap remained covered and out of use and the white horse have temporarily removed their table from the bar area with a plan to reinstate it when they believe it's safe to do so.
Stay safe folks and lets hope we get back playing soon.
