While I am here... I do not enter too many posts... Richard used to do a lot for the Redhill league here, I often just read as a 'non subscriber'. And he is not around any more... What gets on my chest... as an ex-IBM er, whenever I get to put up a post I am a 'JUNIOR FORUM MEMBER'! I have been playing the game for 40 XXXXXXX years! I think 'old git' applies here more than a 'junior'. It's like, you are told you don't know what you are doing on this site, but I worked for big blue! So perhaps that means maybe I am not a 'junior'. Why am I writing this, but hey you can all chuckle... just wanted to make a point... G.

The Burwood Final - over 2 legs: Leg 1:
Paul 1900 v John 4190
Cliff 2810 v Tracy 1420
Colin 1680 v Laurie 4470
Terry 1810 v Vernon 1670
Geoff 2390 v DC 3300
2-3
10590 - 15050
Leg 2:
DC 7820 v Mal 2040
John 10470 v Colin 2660
Laurie 5660 v Paul 2470
Junkie/Vernon 2130 v Geoff 10260
Tracy 1380 v Terry 3030
3-2
27460 - 20460.
6-4 to SPCC.
It was close, the Garland lost a couple of scores, which would have made it 5-5, and the aggregate much closer. Well done to the SPCC.

Interesting one this... I informed Dave Ingram that I would not be able to play at the this weekend this year. Would be absent from the Masters, and also unable to play in the Open for the first time in years. I did not send an open entry form in... If I did I would have entered as an Albion player, so this spurious entry must have come from a Surrey form ??? I'm sorry but I won't be around this weekend. Geoff.

Matt, I will be having another operation on my cue arm on the 21st... it will be under a general, can we bring our match forward to the 14th? Tommo, I was going to ask Richard where Littleworth was, but sadly he is not here any more... how do we find this place? Geoff.

Can't believe this has happened. It it quite a shock. I was standing next to him only last Tuesday. He will be missed big time in the Redhill league. Thoughts must go to his family. RIP Richard, from all at the Ggarland.

Presidents Cup Final at the Merstham Club... Garland v SPCC B 2-2 going in to the final game. I managed to beat Ali in the final 2 legs. I didn't care much for the football which was on the big screen, I was trying to help my team win the final. We did however have a little bit of space to ourselves, the food was wonderful.

When I was playing in the Pompey league for 10 years, (1995-2005), there was not a Southsea league at all. It was just PBBL.

Sad news. I had the pleasure of playing Ken when he was at his best. He didn't give you any second chances. Quality player. Are there any players going to his funeral? Do we have a date and venue yet? Geoff.

So sorry to hear that Dave has passed on. During my 10 years playing in the Portsmouth league, he was the league secretary, and a true gent. RIP Dave. My thoughts are with his family.

If I recall correctly Kevin and Viv were in the team that the Flying Scud played in the first round of the All England Club Finals in 1976 at the Billing Aquadrome in Northants. The Scud went on to win it that year. I won 2 games and lost 1. We beat a team from Sussex in the final.

Damm server coughed... you got that twice! Anyway the Salfords team proved yet again, they do not know when they are beat. They keep coming back at you, we were 2 down in the first match, and 2-1 down in the second match!

For a scratch team the Burwood is an awfully hard competition to win. Salfords had already beaten the Garland in the presidents semi at the Bricks very recently, so this final was not going to be easy, Salfords had a 1500 start too. We played at the Garland first, and in the first leg Colin lost to Alan. Up second was Simon against Dave who broke off with 5k, Simon came back but fell just short to lose by 210. The Garland were 2 down already, Cliff was not around and Mal stepped up in his absence to beat Sho in the third. Geoff against Genette in the fourth. Genette broke off with about a grand and fell off, Geoff got the balls back straightaway and rolled in about 9k, before hanging them up. Mindfull of the aggregate, Geoff then had enough time to add another 3k.. Last game was Paul against Pete. Pete also broke off with about a grand, and then Paul stuck in a 6k break to allow the Garland to win the first match 3-2. With an aggregate of 37560 to 19490. That fifth leg was a crucial leg for the Garland. The Garland were 2-1 down in the second match still needing one more point... in the fourth Geoff had the break against David, a steady 9k break later and the Garland had the second point. 5 points and a better aggregate. Cliff won the last against Pete, and it ran out 6-4 to the Garland. A well fought final. The last time I won this was over 10 years ago...

The Open Singles final, the blue riband of RDBBL. The top was cold, it was slower than when Richard and Budge beat Cliff and I on this top in the pairs about 5 weeks ago... I won the toss and put Richard in, he left the 1 up short, but I did not capitalise straightaway. It was about 7 minutes in that I managed to get the balls back and I ran the leg out, with a 10k break, to lead by about 8k. My opening break in the second was rubbish, Richard did not reply, I got the balls back again, and proceeded to take out the left peg on the split! Hells bells. Still Richard did not reply... got the balls back again and finished it off this time with enough to give me my sixth singles title. Spread over the last 4 decades. 85, 96, 03, 04, 06, and now 13. Happy days.

And as there seems to be another 'free' night in the B League next week, I would like to 'bag' the top at the Bricks for a potential Presidents game ... (2nd April). Geoff.

Driving 60 miles to play on the Stadium top was a joy. Can't say this about the Atlas top. Disapointing... it's not the same. And why... moving a top is not a good idea during the season. Madness.

Thanks team. It is a pleasure to be an All England Team Champion again. It has been a long road. From the Flying Scud in 1976 to the New Sussex Hotel in 2010. You have to experience the disapointments to eventually climb the heights. We were flying, focused, and perhaps, we did it in style. G.
