Just a quick note to say all the rooms at the bay horse are now booked for the Friday night before our open and they have just one room left for the Saturday night
Hopefully we should have the entry form available on line within the next couple of weeks, there been a delay due to problems setting up a PayPal account to allow people to pay on line. We will of couse still be happy to receive payment by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
So far we have already had 6 paid entries from non Suffolk players, namely players from Eastbourne and Hastings who sorted things out during their trip up to the bay horse a few weeks ago.
I will start a new thread with a list of confirmed entries some time next week, but if anyone wants to show their interest by leaving a message here it would be helpful to us.
Looking forward to seeing you all in March for another great day
Dave

I think quite a few people now realise just how different 4 pin is and just how challenging and more fun it can be. I would guess that until a few years ago some had heard of 4 pin but frowned on it and very few of you had played it. Last year we had 64 entries for our open which I hope proves that some people like playing what you probably think of as an alternative version of your game

It was a really fun day down the bay horse and we cant thank the Eastbourne gang enough for coming up to Suffolk and taking part.
Under orders from tommo I decided to take the day semi seriously and didnt have my first beer until 20 past 10, cheers to Colin.
Once again the narrow top played it's part, there were no big scores or breaks, only four final scores of over 2000. But for us it was all about taking part and having some fun and that wouldnt of happened if the Eastbourne players hadnt of joined in and played in the true spirit of four pin, there was plenty of friendly banter throughout the entire day.
I think we must single out Chris Haynes for not only teaching everyone the black peg shots, but then after over 8 hours of playing he still managed to organise a game of killer to finish off a great day. Although how Jason managed to win is a mystery and an even greater mystery is how the prize pot was over £15
Once again Thank you to each and everyone of the Eastbourne team for making the trip up to Suffolk and making it such a fun day and we are looking forward to coming down for a return match in the near future

As it looks like you've got no entries yet I might consider entering if you make it under 57's it could be my chance to actually at least come close to winning my first ever leg of three pin

Just to let you know the date for next years EA four pin has been confirmed as Saturday 25th March. It will once again be played at the Masonic Hall in Sudbury Suffolk.
I know it is still ages away but ive already had some people contact me asking if they can pay their entry fees at the Northants open weekend so I will do my best the remember to bring some entry forms along. As in previous years the entry fee will be £10 per person.
We will, as is now becoming tradirion, be holding a pre open get together on the Friday night at the bay horse where we should have at least two narrow tables available and it would be handy if nearer the time we can get some idea of how many people will be coming along.
The Bay Horse have put a block on people booking their rooms on line for that weekend but already they only have one room available for the Friday night and just two rooms for the Saturday so if you want to stay there please let me know asap as rooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis and remember it is room only. There are plenty of other hotels and B & Bs in the area, if you want some phone numbers just let me know.
Looking foward to seeing some of you in Northampton and then hopefully in Suffolk next year
Dave

I'm really not sure how it works in three pin as I always get knocked out in the first round. But in our 4 pin open when we get down to the knock out stages the games are scheduled so players don't play consecutive matches without at least a 10 minute break between matches, long enough to buy another pint, visit the loo and have a smoke. On top of which I myself struggle scoring 3 pin games. My poor old brain can't cope with the 30 and 10 holes being reversed and I get all confuzzled
Getting scorers had and always will always be a problem with no easy solution

I do know in the sudbury league we have quite a few players who are just not competent scorers and these are often also the players who lose their games, also from a my point of view as a player who drinks during a game and also smokes, the end of a game signal the time for a trip to the toilet and then outside for a smoke.
May be you three pinners are different.
The problem getting scorers is a tough one

So, not over concerned about the three pin as I know I'll get thrashed but our lot are asking about rules for the four pin

Room booked for Saturday night, lift sorted so no reason not to drink too much beer, big question now is where is the nearest decent curry house.
Have reminded Chris to bring the mushrooms so what time are you starting the 4 pin as you'll need the mushrooms before kick off

I heard Northants players have to play one handed whilst standing on one leg with their back to the table apart from the break shots where they must also close both eyes and balance a pint of beer on their head, but that's about the norm

Post by daveuk1 on Aug 1, 2016 15:51:14 GMT
presume we are playing Sudbury rules for 4 pin? I think Northants and sudbury rules are similar, no games start unless you've got a beer Northants comp, Northants rules
