Not heard about that but will ask around.
I haven't been to the pub for at least ten years, although its probably only about 5 miles from my house, its on horrible twisty back road between Bures and Ballingdon so it means a special trip as it isn't a road you would drive on normally. It was always a food orientated place with a great beer garden set on the river banks, marvelous in the summer and dead in the winter.
Will report back

Not wishing to start a riot but, if the Northants 4 pin open is an official AEBBA event does this mean it will played to the same rules as the Suffolk (E.A) open as these were the rules agreed with the AEBBA for four pin tournaments

Also Northants has the AEBBA 4 Pin Open on the 20th May 2017 Northants DOES NOT have an AEBBA 4 Pin Open, it has it's OWN 4 Pin Open. Which is fab but is not an AEBBA event. And we are entering. Thanks Chris x Well all being good I'll be there along with some more from Suffolk

Hi Taffy Sorry if I offended you, that was never my intentions. Everyone has a different view, life would be dam boring if we all thought the same and agreed. What you do is entirely up to you, quite often we play only using the two 50 holes plus the 100 and 200 hole as scoring holes, a ball down any other hole keeps your break going but doesn't score you any points.
I know down south they've basically used our rules with a few tweaks to make the game more enjoyable for them and I can understand that and agree with some, what I am saying is the rules we use for the four open have been approved and probably wont change, I would love to see the bulk lines being used and not having to always have the red in play but I am in a minority here so I cant our rules changing in the near future.
Btw hope we will see you in March

If anyone wants to pay by bank transfer please send me a PM and I can give you our bank account details. I dont want to put the details up on here as we want to have some sort of control and idea of who is paying and when.
I will send you a pm with the bank details asking you to put your name as a reference and asking you to send me a PM with the names and contact details of everyone you have paid for, hopefully that way we will have names and addresses of everyone entering so we can send out programmes in advance.

Isn't the skill in actually playing the red ball and keeping it up for the last ball if you need 400 to win, also by having the red on the table when the bar has dropped always means there is a chance of getting a 400 shot and then leave one white up for a final 200 shot, that makes a minimum of 600 points.
Our rules have been tried and tested, accepted by the AEBBA as the rules for four pin so why try to change something that works perfectly well?
My thoughts only

Welcome Alan
It's always nice to see a new member.
I am sure plenty of people on here will be happy to give advice and their tips for refurbishing tables.
I should say im from the minority group who play four pin in Suffolk.

BAR BILLIARD REPORT An Industrial Electrical Services Sudbury and District Bar Billiard top of the table clash took place when The Bay Horse’ A’ travelled to take on the previously unbeaten Hadleigh Cock. Each side won a doubles with comparative ease and a close contest looked likely. The singles games saw the visitors adapt to the table and Jason Lawrence won the opening game with some good shots 2180-960. Melvin Tilbury and Alasdair Carnegie were neck and neck before the Bay man compiled an excellent 1250 break to win 1780-1390. With the visitors now firmly in the driving seat Steve Hale made sure of the win with an emphatic 2030-490 victory. The Cock tried to make the score respectable but this was to no avail as wins by Dave Lillie and Jeremy Fry gave their team an unexpected 6-1 win. Brewery Tap hosted the Saracens who occupied third place in the table. Determined to retain the pressure on the top two teams they were soon 2-0 up after the doubles. Although games were not particularly high scoring Ken Drake won the opening singles to increase the lead. The match was over as a contest in the next as Ian Furlonger gained victory 1050-500. Determined to enhance their game difference the Saracens kept their foot on the gas and wins by Dick and Nick Cheshire made the whitewash a possibility. This was not to be however as Terry Moore won the final contest to give the Tap their solitary win. The bottom two teams met at Stanningfield Red House where the ‘B’ side entertained Cornard Brook. After sharing the doubles the match swung one way and then the other with Matt Baker giving the hosts a 2-1 lead. Adam Baalham levelled it up with a 920-750 win before his captain, Craig Millgate, gave the Brook the lead. This was short lived however as Steve Bennett made sure of a decider by winning the penultimate game. Tom Cladd and Simon Tonkins went head to head and it was the latter who prevailed 1500-1210 to give the Brook a well deserved 4-3 away victory. The Brook Gloves played host to the Red House All Stars and it turned out a great night for the visitors. Winning both doubles narrowly, Lee Harman then increased the advantage winning 2390-1840. Elaine Wright performed well to decide the outcome of the match after the fourth game. The All Stars kept playing well and it was made 6-0 after wins from Kevin Tobin and John Henderson. Luke Cole-Watts then averted the whitewash with a top scoring 2630. Edwardstone White Horse travelled to take on The Bay Horse ‘B’ and it was all square after the doubles. The hosts then went in front with Jeff Bridges scoring 2610 but Matt Robinson drew the team’s level with a good 2050 that include a 890 break. The White Horse then got their noses in front when And Garvin made it 3-2 and teammate Melvyn Willis won a tremendous tussle with Kieran Pettitt 2040-2010 to clinch the points for his team. The Final game saw Tracy Reeve reduce the arrears with a season’s top score of 3120.

The Sudbury league has functioned very successfully for the last 50 years with the rules basically the same as they are now, if it aint broke don't try and fix it.
Unless im reading your post wrong Taffy, placing the cue ball 3 inches off centre means you've got a bl00dy big D

Hi Taffy Its a shame I didnt know you were coming down to Sudbury, we could of met up for a beer or three and a couple of games.
I am surprised that you say the tables were good as you probably picked two of the less favoured tables in our league, the brewery tap and the red house, both are supreme tables and the one at the red house has a wooden top, you could of gone to the north street tavern in town or the five bells or the brook in Cornard.
In the Sudbury league, obviously four pin a score of 2000 will win you most games.
