Alveston, Gloucestershire for this one......... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiards-Table-/290966091085Some damage to the frame, hopefully superficial. Other minus point the lack of a timer, which really limits it to private use. Went for just £152-81 after 7 bids. Bargain of the century ?

Narrow table, Thurstons (early make), location Newport, Gwent: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiard-Table-Thurston-Co-Ltd-/281157413945Top and underneath look top dollar, but I'm always suspicious when a table has been 'broken down for transportation' in case any bits turn out to be missing ! So if interested, best to check that it has bar mechanism, rack, timer etc. Legs are shown in the main picture, at back of the table. Need to check on bolts too. No bids, re-listed 02/9/13:www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiard-Table-Thurston-Co-Ltd-/281161211683No bids, re-listed again 05/9/13:www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiard-Table-Thurston-Co-Ltd-/281162976207No bids, re-listed again 09/9/13: - re-listing every coupe of days must be costing this chap a fortune !www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiard-Table-Thurston-Co-Ltd-/281164606928?No bids, re-listed again 11/9/13: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiard-Table-Thurston-Co-Ltd-/281166355112?Went this time to a single bid of £225. Bargain - and a relief !

Early table (Thurstons ?) with the four slots at the front for storing the cues: location Waltham Cross, Herts. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiards-table-/141049901785Don't leave it out in the garden for too long, mate, in case the weather turns ! Working bar mechanism with a sixpenny coin slot. Clean and tidy and has the rarity value. Good purchase for someone. Went to a single bid of £350.

shame they didn't referb the mushrooms and 4 mushrooms but the table is marked out for 3-pin .....inasmuch as the position of the spots but easily rectifiable. At least the channels are correctly identifiable for 4-Pin (with two end 10 pockets) and having three red mushrooms if that is an annoyance can be rectified too. Only not by painting over them (as I discovered to my cost !)

Here's one in good condition being sold from Rochester, Kent: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiards-table-/161109384095Interesting set of mushrooms, taller than usual and appearing to defy gravity ! Went for £710 after 21 bids from 8 different bidders. Hope the winner realises he has purchased a narrow table.

Starting this off on the SAMs thread by default......location Amersham, Bucks. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiards-Table-/121185895987Nice clean cloth and D. That's as far as I can comment apart from that it's a terrible piece of marketing (3 pictures, 2 of which are nearly identical, either sideways on or upside down). Loads of questions would need to be asked, the most obvious one being is there a frame to go with it as only the top is shown? Further details on this added 07/10/13Response to question received thus: "Yes, it's in good condition - I have added some pics of the rest of the table so you can see more. It all works well, the only thing to point out is that there is a coin slot and collection tin, we have had it for over 20 years, so it wouldn't take today's money anyway. But the timer works without needing to enter a coin. Regards, Matt"From the further pictures added, it is apparent that this is a narrow SAMs table (from the channel markers above the rack) so am transferring threads. - tommoWent for £549 after 14 bids.

Narrow SAMS in excellent condition, location Bedworth, Nr Coventry: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-Bar-Billiards-Table-/221296938485The dimensions quoted point to one of standard dimensions, but the hole markers and exact diamond formation of central holes is a giveaway. Generous set of accesories, however, and slate looks sound from the picture given. Sold to a single bidder at the Buy-it-now price of £650.

My friend is very interested in this table, to the point where we are arranging to go and collect it on Sunday (if he wins it of corse...) When you say "but the hole markers and exact diamond formation of central holes is a giveaway." A giveaway to what? It does look like a decent table, but do you think its a 3-Pin table or 4-Pin? Also, have you any idea of the average weight of the tables? We're thinking of getting a courier to collect it for us, but not sure of how much it costs due to not knowing the weight? Can anyone help?? Carl

Hi Carl, Good to hear from you too.
Re: 'giveaway', when offering for sale sometimes vendors disguise the fact a SAMS table is a narrow version, and a 3-Pin merchant buys it and has a shock - because he wouldn't be able to play three down, one-up and split on it (like Johnny George is doing in the YouTube clip you put up !)
This shouldn't be a concern to anyone buying for the Norwich or Sudbury leagues, as you both use a mix of all types of table. Sudbury I believe only have one narrow table in the league anyway (the Bay Horse).
Regarding the weight, think in terms of a 20-stone man. So you'd need at least a three-person lift. I have heard of successful transportations in a Luton van, Ford Transit and a Volvo Estate. Make sure the table is transported on its side, as otherwise you will almost certainly damage the slate.
Cushion it underneath with some sheets or packaging foam, and strap it up carefully so that it doesn't move about.
Good luck with the purchase !
tommo

Narrow SAMS from Dorking, Surrey: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAMS-Bar-Billiards-Table-Authentic-Slate-Bed-Timer-VGC-/301013568487On this thread purely for convenience, not recommending purchase at £1000 opening bid, way over the top - even in view of its condition ! Also the dimensions quoted (72" x 38") do not ring true......table in the picture has the 10 holes on the outside and 30 in the middle and it definitely looks narrow ! "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."Yeah, right !

.......and another "caveat emptor" from Bridgwater, Somerset: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiards-Table-/151163443816On first sight the 30 hole markings are on the outside, suggestive of a normal-width table. But this is definitely another narrow one, the 200-50-50-100 forming a perfect diamond. And look at that enormous D ! Buy-it-now price of £950 is, to say the least, optimistic ! And not Victorian as claimed ! Sold for £950.I cannot believe this ! Six bidders made 8 bids, none more than £300, then someone came in and took the Buy-it-now option of £950. Must be the highest price ever realised on a second-hand narrow SAMS table.

Clare & Sons, Liverpool table, location Dunstable: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-billiards-table-/121221391951Very old and rare, I believe Clares were an early prototype for tables of narrow dimension. A good bit of history here, table not too bad for its age...... "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available"Hmmm....private offer made ?

This one from Malpas (Cheshire, near Shropshire and Welsh border) don't impress me much: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiards-table-/321272153529Some horrible damage to the baize (from an industrial liquid ?) has also got through to the channels underneath. Vendor may let it go cheaply as a result. Went for £175-75 after 5 bids - about right IMHO.
