I have been doing a lot of driving since last week and have been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd
Funny how they seem to have been in my head forever, as Hon chair said "they have lost their heart today"
Thanks for all the music in my head. :(

We weny to see The Moody Blues for the umpteenth time @ Brighton Centre last Sat Eve. Same fantastic performance from the Vetran Cosmic Rockers, bumped into Andy Farmer-Wright there and I`m sure he and his good lady enjoyed the show as much as my party did.
Silverfox is "Keeping the Faith" :)

One of my favourite obscure bands of the seventies was Paladin (anyone heard of them?). They only made two albums, but they are full of a diverse range of musical styles. Someone has just posted a bunch of their songs on Youtube - try this one first - I love it it's so chilled (to begin with) and has some great Santana-esq guitar. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=g1FbVYEdy6sLet me know what you think.

Went to see tribute band The Four Fighters at Doghouse, Guernsey. Truly amazing covers of all the Foo Fighters songs. Loud and proud young rockers from 'up North' If you like rock this band are a 'must see'. The lead singer and guitarist is a David Grohl lookalike and with all the actions to boot. There goes my hero !

I'll give you 2/5 for that (Police and AC-DC). As you may all have guessed my tastes are on the rockier metallier side of things, which reminds me - saw Judas Priest in Birmingham on Saturday night and they were absolutely brilliant! Shame my head wasn't the morning after!! My daughter bought me Black Ice (AC/DC) for Christmas and I've only just found the time to listen to it all the way through. Not a bad track on it. Best track: Big Chest.

This is great - The Beatles playing Stairway To Heaven??? Missed that before. Thanks Martin, it's very good, but not a patch on the Rolf Harris original. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I reckon that a Robert Plant version of "I Am The Walrus" would be worth a listen !

Anyone catch this last night on BBC4: a documentary called Standing In The Shadows Of Motown ? About the Funk Brothers, a group of session musicians who provided the Tamla Motown backing sound and 'have had more hits than Elvis, Cliff and the Beatles combined.'
This is a sample:
The lady with the great voice by the way is Joan Osborne.

Last night I attended a very special performance by John Wetton (King Crimson,UK,ASIA) and Geoffrey Downes (Buggles,ASIA,YES) for thier forthcoming ICON 3 CD. It was held at ST Mary le Bow Church in London. A very limited congregation were treated to a full range from ICON 1 and 2 plus some from a distant past including the 11 minute Starless. It certainly was a night to remember and was filmed for a DVD release later this year!

Just got in from watching Clapton at RAH, added bonus was Andy Fairweather-Low.
Centre front row seats 6ft from the mike, cost me a fortune but I'd do it again, tremendous evening, their rendition of cocain just went on an on with solo after solo.
Wow,
Think some scotch is going to be necessary to slow me down and get some sleep!!

But it's only Half As Nice as if he could have Laid Down With Sally afterwards. ;D ;D ;D

Had a fantastic trip down memory lane last Saturday night. Went to the 30th anniversary gig of an old Mod band called Secret Affair up in the smoke. Hope they decide to keep going as they were brilliant.

Just got back from Redhill's Harlequin Theatre where Margo and I saw Eagles tribute band Talon.
They were very, very good and didn't disappoint with their choice of numbers.
They had everything covered, from Don Henley's voice to Joe Walsh's heavy rock work. We saw a double-necked guitar, guitar talk-box, banjo and pedal-steel guitar.
Highlight was undoubtedly Hotel California with six guitars and drums.
Our thanks to Gary for the recommendation, and directions for parking, etc.

Hard to beat:
Jethro Tull - tommo has been on a nostalgia trip ever since my daughter bought me a couple of Tull CD's for my birthday.
Can't stop playing them out in the garden (at suitable volume not high enough to annoy the neighbours, of course ! ;D)

Enjoyed my Christmas present on Thursday evening Motown Legends live at Wembley Arena. Line up Junior Walkers all stars The Miracles Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Mary Wilson Commodores
Something that may not be repeated they spent the whole week traveling up & down the country. When you think about it Motown is celebrating 50 years Bobby Rogers spent his time on stage sitting on a shooting stick while 2 of the Miracles danced. Mary Wilson admitted on stage that she was 65 but boy did she put on a show.
The Commodores played a mix of old favorites & new stuff but were visually brilliant.
A very enjoyable pressie from Mrs G

Always been a great fan of Blues also spent a lot of time and money with Jazz......Spend £12 on a JD and coke in Hammersmith...thats dedication!
Got the feeling now that each riff is just a link to the next ego boosting solo in most modern blues.
Stood and watched an awesome bluesman on pier39 San Francisco seemed to just get it all right!....Dave Earl
No doubt though, good spot! he can play!
Still loving big band! New Athlete album is cool! undecided about fleet foxes!
PS Vinny! just bought a compilation album with secret affair on! Time for action so no surprise there!! Could swear one of my mates was the drummer on that will have to check!

Just returned from Boom-Boom Club at Sutton.
Margo and I saw a fantastic Dire Straits tribute band, 'Dire Fakes'.
Fantastic versions of Tunnel of Love, Telegraph Road, Romeo and Juliet, Down By The Waterline (amongst others) - and of course Sultans of Swing. Money For Nothing as the encore.
It takes a lot to get me going these days, but by the end I was rocking ! And that lead guitarist could certainly play: complicated riffs like that are always going to catch out a less-than-competent musician, and he never missed a note.
We enjoyed every minute. 8-)
