news, Simon was one of the best players in the last 40 years of the Redhill league and Surrey, he won 7 Open Singles titles, numerus League titles, doubles and cups, but most of all he loved the game, he spent many years on the committee, running comps and coaching players, he had his own style, lots of spin and hit them hard, only using a tooth pick. It was my greatest moment in Bar Billiards when I managed to beat him in the 1999 Open Singles Final as at he time he was the best player in the league, but as always he was very gracious in defeat, he was one of a kind who kept this game going and we might not see his like again, RIP Simon.

2nd Leg MVC B 1 SPCC B 4
Jeff 3480 Denise 6950 Neil 3770 Pete 6300 Colin 6790 Genette 2710 Chris 3290 Mick 5510 Benny 3850 Martin 4720
Not so one sided as it looks, if Neil had kept all the points he scored it could have been very close and Mick was level going into the last few minutes.
Good win for us to complete the Cup Double.

No extra leg in this one, if it's 5-5 the team with the highest team aggregate score over the two games wins. I will try to post the scores later when I get them off Denise.

Thanks for the report Michael, so glad to win last night after 3 runners up in the last 6 times the trophy has been played, was also nice to take the winning leg after not performing in the semi-final. I would like to thank all my team for getting us there and finally getting us over the finishing line.

What a week for the SPCC B, having beaten the MVC B on Monday to reach the President's Cup Final, we then had to play our A team in the Bill Burwood Cup Semi Final giving them all 5 breaks with only a 500 point head start on both teams home table.
SPCC A did not make the most of having the breaks, all off very early giving us a chance,
Pete beat Vernon, close game with Pete getting the break back near the end to seal victory. Martin beat John, John off at 1500, I then made a 5500 break, John nothing and then I made another 3000+ to round off. Genette lost to DC, Genette lost a 3000 which could have made it very close. Mick beat laurie, scores level when laurie broke down with very little time left and Mick got the break back to seal the point and put us into the final. Denise lost Tracy, nothing on this one, Tracy won on the last ball, with a little help from DC.

Reigate Ex 1 SPCCA B 4
Good win to secure 3rd with a game to spare, game of the night was the 1st, Ian Davies with the break amassed a 9400 break, almost played the table out, missing with just two balls left, I missed those and finished on 0 for the second week running, I hate this game sometimes.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the passing of Rob King earlier today, our thoughts go out to Sheila and all the family, Rob was a valued member of the RDBBL family and will be sorely missed, he wont mind me saying this but he wasn't the greatest player but he always gave his all and encouraged Sheila to become the player she has been, we will miss you Rob.

Jolly Brickmakers 1 SPCC B 4
Taz lost to Denise Ian lost to Mick Mike lost to Tom Pete beat Genette Taz lost Martin
First game on the refurbished Bricks table, nice and fast, break, one up and split very good but lots of scores lost last night as the balls came back much faster than they go up the table, taking out a lot of white pegs and nearly some blacks, Genette losing 2 2000 plus breaks which would have won the game, Mick and Denise also losing breaks but recovering to win there matches, playing last gave me the advantage and I took no chances finishing with 6.5K and no pegs! Looks like this could be a very good top with a couple of little tweaks.

What a night for SPCC B, when you meet the defending champions you hope to take 2 or 3 points on your home table at best, but to take all 5 and leap to the top of the table, it does not get better, whatever happens for the rest of the season that must be one of our greatest achievement's.

Think the scores for the first game are the wrong way round, Redhill won 4-3 with Jim winning the first game and it all going down to the last game and the last few balls with chances for both players, this could have been 5-2 either way, a great night of very tight bar billiards.

It is with much sadness I must report that Ray sadly passed away on Tuesday, Ray played in our league for more than 40 years (almost as long as me) he was a kind and gentle man and always turned up to help set up our weekend competitions, even when he was unwell, if we needed a player at short notice for the Inter League you could count on Ray to play, he was a true gent and I know he will be truly missed by all in the RDBBL and the wider bar billiards community.

Redhill won the Kent One Day Inter League on Sunday with a very impressive performance winning all 4 games and dropping only 9 legs all day, Garry Powell lead the way with 4 out of 4, with Tony Cross, DC, Martin Pellett and Karl Tidy all winning 3, John Slee 2 and Denise Wills with 1, which she claims was the winning leg (to be honest it was quite important as we were only 1 point ahead of Hasting going into the last round with them to play and beat them 6-1). A huge well done to all.
