A turnaround in form saw Vern Blake beat Alan Messer 2-1 at the Henty last night.Could have been 2-0 had Vern not lost a 5000+ break in the first-Keep it up captain!!!!

Pete and Craig Mansfield beat Rick Cunningham and Steve Aylmore 2-0 at the Swan Many thanks to Rick and Steve for a good battle and for giving my son encouragement when he was at the table, on what was a slightly unpredictable top Thanks to Tony Jenner for scoring

Three Horseshoes 4-1 Elms B Just to say that apart from myself we were given a severe beating last night. My 5000+ against Kevin Hall was the only winning score under 10,000 Seems like the Horseshoes are back on track

Have not heard anything since Vern Blake was told it was not taking place on the 21st.He has apparently been in contact with Bob Hurley and we are awaiting a decision. The last thing I knew was that we were playing at the Duke on the 21st and then a couple of days before Chris Reeves contacted Vern to tell him that the match was not taking place

Elms B 1-4 Swan B Know how the Christmas Turkey must feel.We were well and truly stuffed by the Swan when in the main the table was the winner Phil Oakley v Dave France Phil made a good start but came off fairly quickly,Dave got the break back but was never really at ease.Phil got the break again to run out 6000+ to 2500+ 0-1 John Hayward v Matt Squire John continuing his good form made a steady score without mastering the break, Matt was never in it 1-1 Ron Brewer v Barry Holt A rare off night for Barry but an even worse one for Ron,very low scoring 1-2 Vern Blake v Doug Mahy Vern off very quickly,Doug did more than enough to win 1-3 Pete Mansfield v Roger Taylor Roger touched up at around 7000,I never got a look in as Roger amassed over 10000 for the second week running 1-4 Think I may use the butt end of the cue next time A much improved performance is required next week in our re-arranged fixture against the Duke or we will go into Christmas with another defeat

Swan B 5-0 Swan A Having just logged into this site last night and ready to settle down with a large glass of scotch the call came through that the A's were 1 short due to illness(Spooky,eh!) A quick dash to the Dolphin later it was the sort of night we all should have called in sick Game 1 which I missed the start of saw Phil just hang on against Chriswho for the second game in a row ran out of time having got the break back Game 2 Having left the break short I proceeded to drag Barry down to my level, almost fluking a win, losing the possible winning break with around a minute left Game 3 Roger almost 6k with the break,Terry off after just over 1k,game over Game 4 Vern pegged his opener,Matt off quickly, both players faffed around at the top of the table until Matt had a nice 7k break Game 5 Doug off quickly,Dave built a nice lead only for Doug to come by and win the game Break was quite easy, even I managed to get it 2nd time!! but top of the table was difficult Good luck to the B's in the next round

Not being a defeatist Dave, just a bit of reverse psycology. On our day we can beat just about anyone. I know the neutral table is a great leveller and they have not played it in the league yet We also have to play them in our re-arranged match just before Christmas on their top,so lets see what happens in that one,but you must agree they are going great guns at the moment Anyone who can beat KT's team 5-0 must be playing well !

Swan B 3.5 Elms B 1.5 Well the wheels came off last night after 4 wins in a row 1 Doug Mahy v Pete MansfieldI missed the opening break with the white and was off straight away,a bit of interplay before Doug got around 6000 and touched up leaving me enough time to get another 2000,we then played at who could miss the 100 hole the most times uintil I potted it to go over the 4000 mark 1-0 2 Barry Holt v Chris Scott Barry off fairly cheaply but Chris had a night when nothing would stay away from the pegs.Barry made around 5500 but also lost around another 7000 2-0 3 Brian Richards v Vern Blake Vern off quickly but Brian black pegged his opener then it was who can amass the most small breaks,Brian then pegged a break that would have won.Bar dropped with Vern in front but unable to clear,he needed the 100 to win but missed,Brian sunk in the 200 to draw 2.5-0.5 4 Roger Taylor v Dave France Roger went off with 10500 and touched up leaving Dave around 8 minutes,Dave off cheaply,Roger on to get another 6000+ 3.5-0.5 5 Matt Squire v Terry Denyer Terry steady first break,Matt unable to get in front, good final break from Terry to end up with 9000+ 3.5-1.5

Meanwhile down near the bottom :-/ Your roving reporter went to cheer on his renamed Swan A team He must have been wearing his lucky underpants as they ground out a 4-1 :) win against the Stadium B
Game 1 Charlie Cooper off early aginst Dave France couple of nice breaks from Dave 2100-11200 1-0 Game 2 Gina Sherratt never got into the game against an increasingly more confident Ron Brewer 1120-6920 2-0 Game 3 Mick Pope did just enough against Chris Scott although Chris got the break back near the end only to run out of time 3710-3080 2-1 Game 4 Alan Messer never got going against Terry Denyer although Terry lost a 5k+ break to set up a tense last couple of minutes 1020-1900 3-1 Game 5 Edge Butler off fairly cheaply, captain Vern Blake compiled enough small breaks 2200-4720 4-1 Good Friendly evening, the Swan double their points tally Hope to be able to bring you more home reports in the near future

Will do Dave I wasn't knocking anyone who sends the results and details in. I know there was an article in the Herald which I think was reproduced on this forum, and that the papers lack space for a minority sport like ours, but this is exactly the thing we have been discussing to try and improve the profile of our game. A World Champion in Sussex, will KT be invited to the BBC Sports personality of the year I wonder?

Just found this from the Oxford Mail A bit better write up than the Worthing Herald!!
BAR BILLIARDS: Tunstall in world champ
FORMER Oxfordshire postman Kevin Tunstall delivered the game's greatest prize when he was crowned world champion in Jersey.
The 49-year-old former Wallingford League secretary, who moved to Lancing in Sussex in February, avenged his defeat by Brighton's Jim Millward in the 2001 final with victory at Hotel Ommaroo, Havre des Pas.
Tunstall, who used to live in Abingdon, trailed 8,830-2,240 after the first leg.
And he feared the worst when he broke down with a break of around 2,000 in the second leg as his opponent rattled up 3,000 only to knock over a peg and lose his score.
"I thought I was dead and buried," said Tunstall. "If he had kept them it would have left me 7,000 down and I am not certain I would have had time to catch him."
But he seized his chance to play the table out and take the second leg 11,710-0 and triumph 13,950-8,830 on aggregate.
"It means a lot to any of us in the bar billiards world," added Tunstall. "It is not a professional sport, so we don't make money like snooker and pool players, but it is nice to be world champ- ion."
More than 200 players entered the championships, and Tunstall beat Didcot Conservative Club's Phil Collins in the semi-final, while Millward ended the hopes of Keith Sheard (Nelson, Oxford).
It was Tunstall's third success in the equivalent competition, having won the event in 1993 and 1994 when it was known as the British Isles Open.
But he struck a nerve with him that he had never had the title of world champion.
"It just niggled a bit that I thought I have got to win it to become the world champion, but deep down I always thought I had been, but not in name," he added.
There was also a local success in the Plate Competition which went to Wallingford's Mark Turner, who beat Jersey's Tim Ringsdore 2-0 in the final.

This is a message for Nigel Senior or if anyone else can answer Do you have to be of a certain standard to enter the Open competitions i.e Inter League players As I was hoping to enter the Sussex Open in June

The Ups Beating 4 good players in my first season.Tony Lewis,Chris Tupper and Arthur Brewster at home,Kevin Hall on the 3 Horseshoes top. Winning a match 2-0 in the Sussex Open The Downs Geoff Jukes playing out the Stadium top against me in the last game of the season.Giving too many chances in a number of games I should have won only to end up losing The Elms B finishing bottom of the Premier division
Anyway,can do better next year???

Our Elms team still frequent the pub during the summer months, filling the till and playing the table once a week Putting a table in is a risk but there must have been a good reason for the Alexander to do it .Hope it works out for them.It would be nice for another team to join the league and also lets hope the Gardeners put one in as well, the more the merrier, plus it is quite close to where I live(Signing on and transfer fee?)
