I have just recently heard of the death of Nigel Slade(nosher), at the age of 53. Nigel was a former Sussex Champion beating one of bar billiards greats in John Sullivan in the final, that was when we used to play on neutral tables around Sussex. I took him to all his matches as he had no car and he won all of his games 2-0, in those days there were a lot more entrants than now. On the night of the final we had a mini bus and went to pick up Nigel but he was not at home, so we thought he must be down our local but no sign of him, I knew he did not have his own cue so I took the cue he used from the pub table and we went to find him, luckily we found him strolling down the road, he had been out for the day and forgotten about the final. We eventually got him there, and he won the game quite easily 2-0. Does anybody else remember Nigel? RIP Nigel it was a pleasure knowing you.

Last year Ian played for Worthing A in the one day competition as we were short of a player, but only part of the year in home and away as he said he felt he was not playing up to his best and any incouragement on my part was not going to prize him out of retirement. This left us in a predicament as we had no regular reserves.
This year he did not play at all for Worthing A but approached me for a place in the one dayer, I said he could play if any of my regular home and away team players could not make it. The question was asked and every loyal player to a man said they could, so there was no place for Ian, which he accepted and said he had some other options open to him, I bade him good luck and parted as friends.
So as you see by my explanation of the sercumstances is that in my book I feel I must stick to my loyal team of home and away players that turn out for me in all weathers. In Worthing the captain is the soul selector of the team, so perhaps this should now change and the responsibility be put on the shoulders of the comittee as pehaps my morals could cost Worthing the one day championship.

Can anybody out there remember if their has always been a home and away Inter-league competition, or was their a break at some time. I have been playing since the 1974/75 season and cannot remember thier being one. Also when did the one day competition start.

Gardeners `B` 1 - 4 Swan `B`.
Barry holt lost his opening break of 5,000 to Nick Brown, and gave him the break back, Nick could only score 500, Barry gets the break back and finishes off with 5,000.
Neil Higgins plays a steady game against Phil Oakley and wins easily.
Roger Taylor shoots off with 9,000 plus, against Gary Ridley and two more breaks later finishes with 12,000 plus. Tony Burgess is in front most of the way but Doug Mahy comes back to win ok.
Matthew Squire breaks off with 5,000 plus and wins easily against Jackie Adams (no Paul, in Prague watching Spurs), Matthew still unbeaten this season.
Always a good evening with the Gardeners, good food.
